Eden Rift, in San Benito County’s Cienega Valley, are doing some top-flight work with Burgundian varieties in one of California’s underheralded wine regions. Their 2018 Estate Pinot Noir (95 pts James Suckling, 92 pts Wine Enthusiast) and 2018 Estate Chardonnay (95 pts James Suckling, 94 pts Wine Advocate) are outstanding wines, and they make an impressive gift for discerning palates interested in tasting the breadth and depth of what California has to offer beyond Napa and the usual suspects.

A celebration of the Willamette Valley’s Burgundian influences, this gift pack combines Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from terrific small producers in the region. Every year Manfred Krankl of Sine Qua Non boxes up three bottles each of Grenache and Syrah from his estate Eleven Confessions Vineyard. This is one of those boxes, from the 2018 vintage. Syrah was the usual 100pts from Wine Advocate and Jeb Dunnuck, Grenache was 100pts from Dunnuck, 99 from Advocate, 97 from Vinous.
